En una de mis visitas a
la Madre de las marismas en el Rocío tuve la suerte de observar una idílica
escena. En ella un grupo de espátulas, Platalea leucorodia, desplazaban a un
grupo de fochas, Fulica atra, al llegar volando. En la fuga, nadando, las
negras aves pasan junto a una yegua marismeña y su potrillo. La curiosidad
infantil acercó a este a la rálida más cercana. El ave miró al joven caballo,
parecía que se saludasen con gran respeto…

On one of my visits to the river which carries water to the marshes in El Rocío I was lucky to observe an idyllic scene. In it a group of spoonbills, Platalea leucorodia, arriving at the place displaced a group of Eurasian coots, Fulica atra. On their way out, swimming, the black birds passed next to a marshy mare and its colt. Childlike curiosity brought the colt to the nearest ‘ralllidae’. The bird looked at the young horse, as greeting each other with great respect...
